Our Zen practice follows the teaching and lineage of Zen Master Seung Sahn, the first Korean Zen Master to live and teach in the West. He was the 78th patriarch in his line of transmission from the Buddha, a lineage that includes Bodhidharma, Linchi and Taego. We are affiliated to the Kwan Um School of Zen (international and regional) founded by Zen Master Seung Sahn in the 1970s in America and Europe.
The former regional Head Zen Master for Europe, Wu Bong SSN, was the first western student of Zen Master Seung Sahn from 1972. He died in 2013. The current regional Head Zen Master for Europe, Bon Shim SSN, received inka from Zen Master Seung Sahn and dharma transmission from Zen Master Wu Bong in 2006. The guiding teacher for The Peak Zen Group, Zen Master Ji Kwang, was the first European Zen student to receive both inka and dharma transmission from Zen Master Wu Bong in 1999 and 2012. The local resident dharma teacher received precepts from Zen Master Wu Bong from 2003-2009 and founded The Peak Zen Group in 2011 with his guidance and support.
